Bio-Gene / MED64 Concludes 2014 MEA Users Workshop China with utmost success and enthusiastic response !

MED64 (www.med64.com ), the leader in multielectrode array (MEA) system for neuroscience, is pleased to announce the conclusion of the first MEA Users Workshop in China. Speakers from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong have shared their invaluable experience in using the most advancing MED64 MEA system with attendees. Applications ranging from recording LTP / spike from hippocampus, cortex, amygdala, spinal cord, RGC in retina and cultured neuronal cells were discussed. After the seminar, hands-on wet laboratory demonstrations were performed with the help of MED64 fellow users in China. Attendees were given the chance to learn the tips and techniques in preparation of MEA experiments, dissection and slicing of sample animals, recording and analyzing signals in MED64 system.

The 2014 MED64 MEA Workshop took place in Shanghai Jiaotong University with the help of Prof T L Xu, director of Faculty of Medicine. Prof Xu officially opened the event by giving the attendees a brief introduction of the MEA technology and its potential applications. Thereafter, invited guest speakers has shared their experience with their fellow attending scientists:

Recording of LTP/LTD in the Cortex of mouse

Dr Liu M G (SH Jiaotong University)

Application of MEA in spinal regeneration

Xie Y B (BJ Capital Medical University)

Application of the Med64 system in studying hippocampal long-term potentiation

Prof. W H Yung (The Chinese University of Hong Kong)

Application of MEA in heart muscle

Dr. Y J Lai (Taiwan Mackay Hospital)

Application of MEA in Acute Amygdala slice

Novel in vivo MEA system from Alpha Omega Engineering

    Max Su/ Bio-Gene Technology Ltd

    Demonstration

    1. Recording LTP from hippocampus
    2. EPSP from spinal cord
    3. Electro-signal from cultured neuronal cells
    4. Neuronal signal from RGC

Besides MED64 in vitro MEA system, Bio-Gene also presented the Alpha Omega’s prestigious in vivo MEA system (AlphaLab SnR http://www.alphaomega-eng.com/ ) to the attendees. The AlphaLab SnR is a comprehensive, fully integrated, high-throughput system that allows users to record and stimulate from a virtually endless number of channels, with unprecedented ease and flexibility.

In order to make the best acute slices, sample slices used in the wet lab were prepared by Compresstome vibrating microtome (http://www.precisionary.com/index.html ), which, by using a unique slicing technology, enables researchers to make slices much healthier with minimal effort and better image quality.

Bio-Gene, the exclusive distributor of MED64, AlphaLab SnR, and Compresstome, in China and Hong Kong, is extremely pleased to be one of the organizing partners of the event and help to advance the MEA technology to the scientific society of China. We also thank everyone who has helped, in particular Prof T L Xu of SH Jiaotong University, in making the event a success.
